In 2009 the Turnberry Hotel and Resort was selected once again to host the 138th Open and Arthur McKay were delighted to be involved in the preparations, refurbishing the mechanical, electrical and networks services in the hotel, in time for tee off.
The works included the full strip-out and replacement of the existing mechanical, electrical and public health installations. As an IP Systems integrator we were also identified to assist with the CCTV solutions for both the Hotel and the 138th Open Championship.
The front of house public areas were fully renovated, restoring the grand tea lounge to its original designed intent but this time inclusive of a full comfort cooling and sprinkler installation. In order to satisfy planning and meet the increase in demand by the new comfort cooling installation, a remote energy centre was installed away from the existing buildings. Given the tight time constraints and the unpredictable Scottish weather it was prefabricated off-site, ensuring no delays to this critical path programme item.
The energy centre incorporates 4No. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units, that deal with a significant proportion of the hotels hot water demand. It also meets the new electrical load association, with the comfort cooling installation.
Each public area was provided with a full lighting control and audio visual installation to provide maximum flexibility to the hotel operator, Starwood Hotels.
