Electrical Apprenticeship

This four year apprenticeship consists of a combination of college hours and on site experience, leading to a final FICA test and an SVQ/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation.

Supporting Your Development

The work of an Electrician is varied and can include the following:

  • Installing and maintaining cables, wiring, conduits, fitments, meters, switchgear and other electrical equipment
  • Using a variety of hand and power tools to measure, cut, join and fit cabling, wiring and equipment of various types
  • Reading plans and technical drawings and working from them on large projects
  • Installing the wiring and electrical components in complex electrical and electronic equipment
  • Testing installations to make sure that they are effective and completely safe, diagnosing and repairing faults in installations and electrical equipment

Entry Requirements and Applications

Applicants must have sat and passed the relevant industry approved assessment – SECTT (in Scotland) or JTL (in England). It is also desirable for applicants to have achieved a National 5 or GSCE in Maths, English, Physics and a technical subject as a minimum. Click here for more information on sitting the Pre-Employment Assessment.
