Let's take a few details.

Trump Turnberry

Arthur McKay has decades of experience in the hotel and leisure industry.  Even so, we were delighted to be awarded the multi-million pound contract for the major refurbishment of Turnberry Hotel, following its acquisition by the Trump Organization and planned, phased £200 million capital investment programme.

Having worked at the resort before, under its previous ownership, the project management team for the refurbishment actually specified Arthur McKay as the mechanical, electrical and data services contractor before the main construction contract was even put out to tender!

PROJECT SCOPE

We were employed in the capacity of both services consultant and fit-out contractor. In our role as design consultant, we optimised the use of existing service routes and resources, consequently saving time, money and unnecessary disruption to the fabric of this historic, B-listed building.

Refurbished areas included: 120 en-suite bedrooms in the main hotel and Spa building, the signature 1906 restaurant, all front of house areas, function suites and bars, including renovations to restore the Grand Tea Lounge to its original Victorian splendour.

KEY CHALLENGES

The main hotel refurbishment was a challenging 32-week programme, which we completed on schedule, ensuring the hotel could re-open in time for summer occupancy. Our works programme was phased to handover refurbished bedrooms 20 at a time, to co-ordinate with (and stay ahead of) the resort’s Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment installer’s schedule.

It takes a world-class contractor to meet the exemplary standards of this 5-star resort and we are extremely proud to have delivered one successful phase of refurbishments after another. Not every M&E contractor could resource multiple complex projects at the same time, delivering them all to such high quality standards.

OUR SOLUTION

Prior to handover, our Project Managers completed regular walkthroughs with the hotel’s management team, ensuring all the works were completed to the client’s 100% satisfaction insofar as delivering the best guest experience and also for ease of operation and maintenance, going forward, by the resort’s own facility managers.

As testimony to the success of this first phase of works, we were subsequently awarded the fit-out contracts for the new build 500-seat grand ballroom and the transformation of the Turnberry lighthouse into an exclusive two-bedroom suite, with a new bar created on the lower terrace, serving as a “halfway house” for the 9th hole of the resort’s famous Ailsa course.

We have always prided ourselves in our customer-centric approach, putting our clients at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment and practical demonstration of that philosophy have resulted in Arthur McKay becoming Trump Turnberry’s contractor of choice; a relationship we nurture and hope to enhance with every successful project we complete.

“Arthur McKay’s installation team were pivotal to the success of this project, ensuring we met our
re-opening deadline. Their team are truly world-class in terms of their technical skills, teamwork and customer care.”

Andrew Billick, Construction Manager, Trump Organisation
